Zookeeper is already deprecated (since 3.5):
https://kafka.apache.org/documentation/#zk_depr
It's planned to be fully removed in 4.0 release.
It's not confirmed yet, but there is a high probability that there won't
be a 3.9 release, and that 4.0 will follow 3.8.
