I compiled only --with-mysql and other dlrs options.

but sending sms with SMPP protocol is much faster than EMI,
so that could be a clue to say it's a config problem (perhaps at SMSC
center)

Did you compile with checking malloc ? Resulting code will be slow,
because then all memory is filled
with various markers.
