I have been trying to make it work for some time now. I'm using the CVS version on a debian box and updating it constantly.
It works fine with ALL PHONES BUT NOKIA....it gives a time-out on the first try and on the second try it starts working fine.
Tested with 5 or 6 different nokia phones....always the same.
I made traces with ethereal and from what I could realize nokia phones change the way they communicate from the first to the second try.
We other phones, no problems! They communicate the way they should right from the start...but nokia...never....

Can you PLEASE send me a working config file and specify the version in use 1.2.1, 1.3.1, cvs? Also, what OS? WTLS works ok?

many thanks,

Miguel

Hi, Miguel.

I can confirm that kannel successfully works with nokia phone over GPRS as well
as over CSD. We use it in commercial enviroment without problem.
It tested and works with almost all phones in our network.

People are using kannel as a wap gateway!?
Does it work it nokia 6310i for instances? Don't think so.
For me it never worked with nokia phones over GPRS....and nobody ever confirmed if it did work or not....I think it doesn't....
Can you confirm this?
I did traces with ethereal and it seems that nokia phones talk differently...

p.s.

sonyericson mobiles work just fine.

I'm actually more interested in the performance of Kannel as a WAP

actually we have Kannel using as WAP gateway on a LVS (linux virtual server) environment and it works with several hundred concuring connections.

Some operators from the east block do use Kannel as WAP gateway in production environments too.

A simple 'strace' shows contineous 'poll'ing.

Can you drop us here some wapbox.log and dumps from the strace to identify why the poll()ing occures.

BTW, which version are you trying. If it is 1.2.1 stable then yes, there have been poll()ing things going on, which are fixed in 1.3.2 devel.

Please try 1.3.2 devel and let us know if the CPU utilization is still present.

Stipe
