It appears that the application submitting the SMS (via sendsms) is escaping the quote marks. You can verify this by looking at your smsbox.log. Chances are, you will see that your application send a back-slash in front of all your quotes (single and double quote). The sendsms-user service inside the smsbox does not perform any character escaping. See ya... d.c.
