I don't have access to an SMSC ,, I want to use a GSM modem as a Virtual SMSC to send sms messages
at mentioned at the compatibility page http://kannel.org/compatibility.shtml
can only these three devices be used as virtual smsc ?
Nokia Premicell, Siemens M20, Wavecom WM02-G1800 modem
can't I use some more common mobile phone as a gsm modem ? Thanks

You should write your own config files. The files you mentioned in the gw directory are just a few examples. Consult the documentation and create a new config file, name it as you wish (no matter if it kannel.conf or mykannel.conf or whatever), place it in any directory and just declare its presence when you run kannel modules: eg. bearerbox kannel.conf or smsbox -v 1 /path/to/kannel.conf
