A quick question. Is there any limitation on the file size you can

Hi Mike,

yes, there is a limit... According that most WAP gateways have WTP-SAR implemented, which segments the transported object to fragments, you can have a maximus as follows:

Fragments are identified by a byte, hence you have a maximum of 256 fragments in a single SAR transaction. MTU is usually 1400 byte, so you come up to 358400 bytes in maximum object size for uploading and downloading via a standard WAP 1.2.x compliant gateway.

That's also the cause why (as far as I know all) carriers with MMSC services limit the MMS transport to 300 KB.

Of course if you use a WAP 2.0 proxy, hence plain HTTP proxy'ing, you don't see the WTP related limits.

There was a extention to WTP-SAR called ESAR (for extended SAR), which uses sliding windows to raise the size up to a non-limited maximum. But the industry decided that devices would run WAP 2.0 HTTP proxy'ing easier then ESAR via WTP.

If you need further assistance, please contact me.
