Hi Struart

Just a little question, since you will need both software and hardware
what's is your plan?

Software will be something like this:
1. kannel
2. linux
3. php/myqsl/apache
4. content management system (CMS)

hardware
1. your server
2. gsm modem --> wavecom is one of the best

--> also connection to SMSC Center/ Bulk Provider

you need to concentrate on CMS and connection to SMSC Center/Bulk Provider

Have you a plan on this?

I just wanted to run my project plans by you all, feel free to comment on
what I intend to achieve

I am currently running ubuntu on a laptop with SE mobile phone.

 Server:
 ubuntu stable, php, mysql, apache

I plan to use a modem of some description to receive commands and
subscriptions from users and update a database of recipients who register
for a public service.

I then intend to relay on demand messages to the recipient list as and when
required. so person x send a message with command and message and then all
people who registered have recieve the txt message.

I only know about php/mysql in terms of programming so the method resend
will call a query page which in turn submits requests to the http interface
in kannel.

I understand you can compile PHP so it will run faster like an executable
anyway

I would intend for the modem in the machine to handle the subscription
aspects of the system, but would then look for a remote smsc service to
distribute the bulk emails, there would be around 1-2000 message per run.

I plan on using a small form factor dell with some sort of PCI modem, does
anyone have any recomendations I would like to buy 2 to support failover.
(also have mysql replicated across the systems)

I would also like to know where there are some good smsc centres, I am
interested in a reasonable cost per message, I don't want to make any money
that end is covered, but I need to have a low rental service option as there
will be periods where this service just insn't in use. I could use the
modem, I do wonder if it would cope with sending so many messages at once,
has anyone had any experiences with this ( if I have two lots of kit would
cycle them, i.e. double the through put)

sorry to lean on the list in this way the documentation leads me to believe
that this is possible however its always good to check.
