Thanks Alejandro,
 the symlink solved the mysql connection problem.

I just found out from the kannel guide that AT command in smsc does not
support DLR, so no report will be delivered. I'm using Huawei E172 modem
with the at command, so I guess I won't be able to see the DLRs.

Thanks for the help. Now my kannel runs smoothly with no errors.
