Actually it was not me who said that, it was Nikos. I just added a comment to Nikos email that I think he missed the detail that You were using SDK and not a phone, so local network is enough in Your case... Anyhow, like Nikos also mentioned, check that the server allows traffic to ports 9200 & 9201 in it's firewall. Since the error r was "No Gateway Reply", that could be caused by the firewall in the server or in the PC you are running the emulator.
