I agree 100%

Specialized distributions are intended for that use and that use only.
Sometimes other things may be possible but some things may become a
nightmare and never work.

Chirp should just work on all the general purpose linux distros (ubuntu,
mint, fedora, etc.) without problems by following the instructions to
install it.
