I recently bought a Baofeng UV-17 Pro and it appears to be more or less
completely functional.

However, I can not seem to pursuade it to be programmed from my
computer.

I am running the Linux version of Chirp, latest, and using an FTDI
programming cable. It has two lights on the USB end of the cable, and
plugs in to the headphone and mike jacks on the radio.

When I get everything plugged in properly, a green light shows up on the
cable.

I start Chirp, tell it I want to download from the radio and give it the
correct port. ( The radio is on. )

I click the "Start" button, and the screen on the radio lights up, and
then shows a picture of a "computer" along with the word "Program."

However, shortly afterwards, that display goes away, and Chirp complains
that it didn't get as much data as it expected.

Any suggestions? Do I have the wrong cable, something else?

Thanks,
Brian
