... and I assume you have selected the correct radio model right?

How "previous" are we talking? I haven't used one of these radios with CHIRP in 
about three years, but the driver also has not changed since then. I can try to 
repro with an FT-817 tomorrow and see if it works for me.

Please file a bug using the in-CHIRP tool, which will send a lot more 
information. This is the users list and low-level debug is not really 
appropriate here.

Yes, they're effectively the same driver. The FT-817 implementation came first, 
so that's why it identifies as such.

and let's continue there. Any details about which variant of the 857 you have 
would be helpful in that bug as well.
