My review of the chirpmyradio homepage leads me to think the answer is to use: UV-5R++ (use UV-5R) But you say you've tried that.
Are you able to read from the radio? That's the first step, I believe. I don't have that radio, so I can't offer any specific advice, aside from the typical: Turn up the volume, Put the radio on a quiet channel, Remove the antenna, And make sure the K connector is FIRMLY in the radio - if this is a new-to-you radio you may have to push a little harder to make sure the connector is firmly in...
