System administration, by itself, is an ocean. It is a very broad term that involves many things. You could start with something small to work with during this summer, but, I would think that it will take atleast 6 months of hands-on work to really get to do address and cover every subject of system administration. We could continue to follow it up on IRC or on this list, in the long run. The topics that have been listed are never mapped to any specific domain. So, yes, they could be helpful in different domains.
