After installing the Firefox scrapbook-x add-on 
I found the rather strange source of my problem.
The first digit in the PIN that I fill in
is always recorded as 1.
However, it can then be changed to the correct value.

I'm not sure if this comes from Firefox "remembering" the PIN,
from the bank software, or from somewhere else.
