You're thinking about this the wrong way.  Not many of us in "this day
and age" have enough time to read email.  For every email you write
there may be thousands of readers.  Their time is just as precious as
yours; perhaps even more so.  Therefore, if you want people to read
your mail, you should do them the courtesy of quoting what is relevant
and trimming the rest.

Well, yes.  As the proportion of civilians using email goes up, the
overall cluefulness level goes down.
