In the past I've used fedup to upgrade and now, of course, dnf.  In neither 
case were the
nvidia drivers removed/replaced with nouveau.  This is using the nvidia drivers 
supplied
by rpmfusion.

Additionally, using the akmod-nvidia as opposed to relying on rpmfusion to 
supply kmods
will free you from having to wait or worry about rpmfusion repositories keeping 
in sync
with released kernels.
