We installed:

dnf install akamod-nvidia-340
dnf install /usr/bin/kmodtool
dnf install akmods
dnf install nvidia-340xx-kmod-common xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-340xx-kmodsrc

But now the boot fails at:

"Stopped user manager for UID 42"

(indicated by monitor connected to onboard VGA device).
