Conceivably this is due to the default PS/2 keyboard in QEMU/KVM. I've had a number of problems with this and have switched to a virtio keyboard, which you can add from the virt-manager interface. This means installing virtio drivers in the VM but it seems to work better (though I've only used Windows VMs). Another option is to install synergy (see for example https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-share-keyboard-and-mouse -on-multiple-computers/) which some people swear by but I haven't had much luck with.
