I had problems with Firefox freezes (very long delays responding to any
mouse
click) on several systems (linux and macOS).  Removing the Mr. Robot add-on
(https://www.engadget.com/2017/12/16/firefox-mr-robot-extension/) seems
to have restored normal operation.
