Thank you Ed Greshko for that insight.  I have reduced the storage and synchonization to almost nothing. I'll see how that works out.  Seems OK so far.

That's pretty much the whole point of IMAP, at least as far as an improvement over POP, the latter of which doesn't give you any choice on this matter. In fact, properly set up IMAP allows you to access your mailbox(es) from multiple computers/tablets/smartphones and always see the same thing.
