After a new install, you may need to horse around with the firewall, so that the printer is automatically found by the system. Look for an IPP (internet printing protocol) checkbox, and tick the client option if you're printing over the network to a printer (you'd tick the server checkbox if this computer was serving its directly connected printer to the rest of the LAN). CUPS uses IPP.
