That's the point. Their "explanation" in the messages and code manual was laughable gibberish. P.S. What it really meant was that the $@#! operator in the comp center mounted the wrong tape which had unexpected block sizes and blew up the program trying to read it (at least that's what it always meant the 47,000 times it happened to me :-).
