I had ran vlc successfully to listen to another video from my son (of one of his boy's) and then went to quit the vlc from the panel. Looked at messages and see:

Jul  7 22:48:58 lx140e audit[1]: SERVICE_STOP pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 subj=system_u:system_r:init_t:s0 msg='unit=fprintd comm="systemd" exe="/usr/lib/systemd/systemd" hostname=? addr=? terminal=? res=success' Jul  7 22:49:06 lx140e vlc[13672]: QObject::~QObject: Timers cannot be stopped from another thread

Does this shed any light on what is happening?

        ps aux | grep vlc | grerp -v grep

        will do what you want.  I have this as a one-liner shell
        script because
        it comes in handy more often than you'd expect.
