change the IME shortcut so I'll do that.
While looking into this I came across this post:

so I installed dconf-editor and the shortcuts are there.
/org/gnome/desktop/wm/keybindings/
switch-applications ['<Super>Tab','<Alt>Tab']
switch-group ['<Super>Above_Tab','<Alt>Above_Tab']
Bit worried that customising it here is going to cause me problems down the
road.
Thanks for helping out and I'll just change the IME shortcut.
