You may need to configure the clients to use SMBv1 (assuming you
aren't concerned with security).   Consumer routers with USB disk
support are generally intended to be used as Windows Media
Servers and won't support POSIX users and groups.   If you need
to preserve POSIX ownership and permissions you want a proper NAS
that supports linux and macOS.
