Didn't you mention some kind of wonky graphics happened with one of
your tests?  A login popup had strange colors or something?

At the least this indicates that the graphics device is working just
fine.  It sounds like the electronic circuits that drive power are
going bad so that neither the manual switch or the signal from the
computer turn it on most of the time.

That would be my conclusion.  Maybe you can pick up a cheap used
monitor.  Lots of people are upgrading to 2K and 4K monitors, and they
are selling or giving their old monitors to charity.  Are there any
charity stores in your area?  You could also try craigslist or ebay.
