The reason it's there is because in order to change the page format you
have to start a new page. And it's not really there anyway. The actual
landscape setting is part of the style. Format->Page modifies the page
settings for the currently active style. If you switch to the
"Landscape" style, then Format->Page will show that you are in
landscape. I guess you have to understand that LO operates at a higher
level than just basic typing. You can do that, but you shouldn't, at
least if you're writing something more than just a really basic memo.
If you use styles properly, then you can make global layout and
formatting changes easily.
