There probably is, but I would have learnt this from the BIND
documentation years ago, and just kept pace with how BIND rewrites its
own zone files (I have a DHCP server on my LAN, and zone files are
updated by it).  Be careful of helpful websites which have errors in
them.

This side of thing (how the data is stored on your computer) will
depend on what particular name server software you use.

How *they* serve it to the world would have its own set of rules.
