Have you tried running a live disc (as a live disc, rather than
installing it), and see what comes on that basic install?

"file" command.

[tim@fluffy ~]$ file /usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-BoldOblique.t1
/usr/share/fonts/urw-base35/NimbusSansNarrow-BoldOblique.t1: PostScript Type 1 
font text (NimbusSansNarrow-BoldOblique 1.00)

The filename suffix was a bit of a clue, but I used file to check.
