Hi guys.

How, if possible at all, to get audio/sound work when you switched to a different user? I'm thinking here of 'sudo' & 'su' but would be happy of any other way to run GUI apps with user ID different from currently "normally" logged in.

many thanks, L.

Hi guy

If I understand correctly, you are wanting to achieve something similar to what I achived with the following service file. My problem was: run Thunderbird under a different user from the one logged in:

in /etc/systemd/system/thunderbird.service

<snip>

[Unit]
Description=thunderbird

[Service]
Environment=DISPLAY=:0.0
Environment=LC_TIME=en_DK.utf-8
ExecStart=/usr/bin/thunderbird
User=cvs

[Install]
WantedBy=graphical.target

</snip>>

Run this service with the command:

systemctl start thunderbird

which you might place into a launcher on your desktop. Because you change users, you will have to give your password, when you start the service.
