Because bluetooth is the most persnickety unreliable temperamental protocol ever invented? Sometimes you have to put the device you are trying to connect to into some special mode before it will show up, and the way you do that isn't indicated on the device anywhere so you have to spend an hour finding a copy of the manual on the internet so you can search it for another hour to find the instructions :-).
