I converted when there was no longer default support for ifcfg files unless I installed NetworkManager-initscripts-ifcfg-rh.x86_64 and edited the /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf file to say try the ifcfg-rs plugin first. The command nmcli connection migrate seemed to work fine for me (which shocked me given how complex I thought my network connections were).
