Some will show up as USB mass storage (or at least let you access an attached sd card by that method). I've got a samsung which is locked down for that (and I don't want to have to root it), in which case you have to use MTP. For access in KDE I've got kio_mtp installed. simple-mtpfs works for me if I need command line access.
