are the cards exactly the same size? It looks as if the card you copiued
to is smaller than the one you copied from... What does fdisk   -l report
for disk size for the "old" and "new" cards?

IT DOES look like that. I will try the fdisk. I suspect that although they are marketed as 16GB, they vary due to manufacturing quality by a block or so.
