As Gentoo havn't got the RPM system I'm trying to compile Ingres from
source. I follow the points in the INSTALL file to the point and nothing fails. But when I run "buildrel -a" to verify my build it reports a list of missing files (pasted in the end of this mail). Have anybody any idea
what I'm doing wrong?

I then tryed to ignore these and continued the installation process just
as the INSTALL file said. This includes making a tarball (some kind of
release file) and the use ingbuild. I runned "ingbuild -all
/absolute/path/to/my/tarball/", but this told me that I hadn't selected
any products.

Ingstart tells me that I havn't got any ingres server configured to
start. This is properly due to the second error, and that is properly
due to the first.

As a little note I can't see the "smart' thing in the installation
process. Why the "make tarball and run ingbuild" steps? I'm sure it's
very smart, but I can't figure it out. Can anybody explain that to me?

I've put some notes on installing Ingres 2006 Community Edition on Gentoo via the RPM route:

Works for me, please let me know if this helps.
