No - from memory I think this is required because of the syntax used
for certain GNU commands (head/tail, iirc). The script doesn't run
'out of the box' in some environments (such as my Gentoo Linux, when
I last installed Ingres). I have to update my installation soon so I
am about to rediscover all this...
