Did you check whether the tablename prefixes in '/WEB-INF/config/ mmodules/mmbaseroot.xml' matches with those in your current database. In MMBase 1.8 it is:
<property name="basename">mm</property> Some developers change it for testing purposes.
We are also busy with integrating a new content management system (gx webmananager)
O well, then you have some company to blame when you run into problems ;-)
