Hi,
I try to bind both the memory and processes on our compute cluster nodes
but only the processes binding works. How can I also specify to allocate
the memory on the same numa node than where the process is bind? I tried
with the option "--mca hwloc_base_mem_alloc_policy local_only" without
any luck.
I tested the memory biding with a small c++ program that allocates an
array of 1.8GB of memory and then touches that memory. When I run it
with this command line
mpirun -np 8 --mca mpi_paffinity_alone 1 --mca
hwloc_base_mem_alloc_policy local_only ./numa_test
and look at the binding with hwloc-ps or lstopo I get the right
processes binding. However, the /proc/process_id/num_maps doesn't
indicate any memory binding other than the default one and some memory
pages are allocated on both numa node memory.

If I run the program again with an explicit hwloc-bind command like this

now I get the expected results (with the bind:0 or bind:1),

The comment for the hwloc_base_mem_alloc_policy parameter says:

I though that it's what I want but it doesn't have any effect.
I compiled Open MPI with these options. I disabled the "first_use"
memory affinity to be sure that openmpi uses the "hwloc" policy (Open
MPI shows the same behavior with or without the "first_use" policy anyway).
