Hello, Since some days, I try to make Opencontrail work with vCenter, in vCenter-only environment and I have some questions. My goal for now is just to have a working Proof Of Concept of contrail/vCenter integration with virtual networks creations and security policies; in a test environment.
First, for the installation : 1) The quickstart guide (http://www.opencontrail.org/opencontrail-quick-start-guide/) mentions some the package, but they seem to be only until version 2.2, not 3.X branch. Are there some wrapper packages for 3.X branches ? 2) http://www.opencontrail.org/rdo-openstack-opencontrail-integration says we can get the packages on the Juniper website. When I tried it seemed to say I had to be Juniper customer. Are the Debian packages supposed to be publicly available ? 3) Is there an up-to-date recommended installation/configuration guide I should use ? Secondly, for the integration with vCenter : I was able to install contrail 3.2 and I tried this installation : · One controller · One vRouter · One vCenter · One ES 1) The target configuration was dvswtich underlay (https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/contrail3.0/topics/task/installation/vcenter-as-compute-deployment-scenarios.html#distswitch). In this configuration, my vRouter is supposed to have 2 interfaces : one in the Contrail-fab-pg (dvs-fab), for uplink and one in VM-PG (in the dvs I called contrail-dvs). Should the VM-PG be created manually in vCenter or should it be created in contrail web UI ? Or did I mistunderstood the picture, and VM-PG is not a port group but just a symbol to say "all the port groups used by VM" ? 2) If I understood contrail-vrouter-agent.conf, it seems that the vhost0 interface (linked to the VM-PG port group) should have a valid IP configuration, with a gateway. What's the point ? I can see why it's useful for the uplink interface, but I'd thought that the vhost0 interface would be dynamically managed by the controller and without gateway (the gateway being on the uplink). 3) If I had 2 ESXI in my vCenter (which I actually have, but I only use one for my PoC), should all the dvswitch be deployed on all the ESXI ? Or are they local ? I'm a little bit confused because in my mind "d" stands for distributed but with 1 vRouter/ESXI, it seems logic to have "local" dvswitches 4) With my 3.2 installation, I got an error in the sync between the controller and vCenter (contrail-vcenter-plugin-stdout.log) : [2017-06-01 06:34:36,648] [DEBUG] [Thread-3:VCenterDB@937][] [ Ignoring vm: VM01] [2017-06-01 06:34:36,736] [INFO ] [Thread-3:VCenterDB@1017][] [Skipping VMI in unmanaged network vmware-vcenter-testvlan] [2017-06-01 06:34:36,740] [INFO ] [Thread-3:VCenterDB@1017][] [Skipping VMI in unmanaged network backup-vlanfake-false] [2017-06-01 06:34:36,740] [DEBUG] [Thread-3:VCenterDB@937][] [ Ignoring vm: VM02] [2017-06-01 06:34:36,832] [ERROR] [Thread-3:VCenterNotify@654][] [Error in sync: java.lang.NullPointerException] [2017-06-01 06:34:36,833] [ERROR] [Thread-3:VCenterNotify@655][] [java.lang.NullPointerException] I noticed this issue (https://bugs.launchpad.net/juniperopenstack/+bug/1550603) but it's supposed to be fixed in release 3.0. Every 2 seconds, contrail connects to vmware and the connection is killed without any synchronization. I tried to see if it was a known issue but found nothing (this issue was the reason I tried to install another version of contrail). Do you have an idea how I can fix/troubleshoot this ?
