Another piece of the puzzle. I started snmpd with the '-DALL' debugging option. (Lots of output). Digging through the output I find '/var/opt/csw/net-snmp/snmpd.conf: line 52: Error: Unknown privacy protocol' when /var/opt/csw/net-snmp/snmpd.conf is parsed. This is apparently caused by the AES protocol being defined vi net-snmp-create-v3-user.
