I run it on Kali under WSL because there is an easy path to having a full linux desktop with menus etc. This is useful for running programs like xcrysden. (https://www.kali.org/docs/wsl/win-kex/ <https://www.kali.org/docs/wsl/win-kex/>) If a linux GUI desktop is not important to you and you are only interested in the command line, my guess is that Ubuntu will be easier to get a successful compile.
