the question isn't stupid but the answer is obvious...

so yes, the RPM likely has something along those lines. But as you said it's called "post install".
So unless you (re-)install the nvidia rf rpm, it can't do anything.

the problem is that it's when a new *kernel* gets installed that you want to trigger dkms scripts. That's what dkms_autoinstaller is supposed to do, but it seems confused with the weak_updates.

That's as far as I've gone in the analysis, but if someone has some time and wants to help improve things, I'm sure getting in touch with dkms people would be good. (I'm out of free time...)
