I am running a Scientific Linux 4 (SL4) i386 box where I need to install
a package which needs perl-XML-Simple.
This SL4 box is using this DAG yum repo:
http://ftp1.scientificlinux.org/linux/extra/dag/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/RPMS
which as far I understand is a mirror of the rpmforge repo
We are not able to install anymore that package because of:
Missing Dependency: perl(XML::SAX) >= 0.15 is needed by package
perl-XML-Simple
Indeed it looks like that perl-XML-SAX is not available in that DAG repo
anymore.
Everything was working properly till some weeks ago.
see the recent posts by dag on this list, concerning the split of
rpmforge into several repos. The rpmforge repo is now intended to never
replace base packages, such packages are now in the new rpmforge extras
repo (repo tag rfx). This includes perl-XML-SAX on EL4.
Briefly, you should configure yum to use these repos, using priorities
and/or disabling rfx by default (or whatever your policy is regarding
superseding base SL packages).
BTW you shouldn't use the "dag" repo, although I think it's a link to
rpmforge currently.
From what I understand base+rf should be "closed", so your report may
mean that perl-XML-Simple should move to rfx in el4.
