They do if you use another client.  Gmail has this feature which
everyone considers a bug, where what you send to a mailing list will not
show up to you until there is a reply. 

That's why I don't use gmail for mailing lists. There have been many
requests to make it optional, as it seems very few people want it, but
these requests have been ignored.
