You just refer to the parent as the parent. Maven does not require that the parent be in the same SVN repository as the child. If the parent isn't (which I would think is typically the case for corporate POMs), then it just has to be in a Maven repository somewhere.
For example, the POM in this project: http://kenai.com/projects/boxspring/sources/main/show/trunk references the corporate POM I linked to below (well, the last release of it).
