Okay. Thanks for the input guys. So it seems like _not_ defining it is the more flexible option, which would mean removing it from the web site materials. I guess a JIRA is in order. I'll point it at this thread.
Any tooling absolutely require this M2_HOME var that you know of? M2Eclipse? IntelliJ?
