You might also try the Eclipse STS from Spring.
It has everything that you need for developing Spring applications with Maven, all packaged up in a single download.

Apparently the eclipse plugin does not run the eclipse goal for pom
projects. Can I suggest you simply use M2E like "everyone else"?
