I believe the answer is that it will not unless the item to be renamed is the item specified in the mapping. I would say to give it a try and let me know if it works or doesn't work. If it works, I can add that information to the docs; if it doesn't work, send me more info on what you are doing and I can see what I might be able to do so it will.
