The scope "provided" can be used for this situation. I would restructure my project as the following:
parent directory +pom.xml /stubs module ++pom.xml ++src/main/java /distribute module ++pom.xml {includes <dependency> on stubs with <scope>provided</scope>} ++src/main/java This is probably the easiest way to achieve what you're looking for.
